FAQ

Medical Care

How does the Metabolic Assessment & video consultation work?

We connect you with a specialist doctor. They first organize a comprehensive health screening including blood work done at a local lab. You then talk these through with your board-certified obesity doctor to assess your current metabolic health so they can personalize your treatment plan and prescribe medication suited to you. In a video appointment, your specialist doctor will review this screening and your medical history — then answer any of your questions about the treatment plan.

What is included in the lab work?

A comprehensive screening which may include:

- CBC (complete blood count)

- CMP (comprehensive metabolic panel)

- TSH (Thyroid-stimulating hormone)

- HbA1c (Hemoglobin A1c)

- Lipid panel

Additional testing may include an EKG (in patients with a history of cardiac disorders and stroke), and a complete thyroid panel depending on your medical history.

Medication

Why take medication?

Obesity is complex. Far more complex than just "eat less & exercise more". Board-certified obesity doctors regularly prescribe FDA-approved medications, including what are called GLP-1s: glucagon-like peptide-1s. In peer-reviewed research these medications, in combination with lifestyle change, are one of the most effective ways to get to a healthier weight.

What medications will I be prescribed? Are they FDA-approved?

All medications your specialist doctor will prescribe are FDA-approved, and have been scientifically proven to help with tackling obesity.

The doctors we connect you with normally focus on GLP-1 medications (glucagon-like peptide-1s), which have been safely used for Type 2 diabetes since 2010. GLP-1s help lower your set point by decreasing hunger, increasing satiety, and regulating hormones.

Your specialist doctor works with you here to create the best pathway for you, dependent on your health history and your insurance coverage.

How does the medication work?

The specialist doctors normally focus on GLP-1 medications (glucagon-like peptide-1s), depending on your personal situation. GLP-1s are naturally occurring hormones that send signals to your brain to decrease your appetite, improve your metabolic function, and increase satiety. Research suggests that people who are at a higher weight show reduction in GLP-1 signalling.

The medications that the specialist doctors prescribe work on the same receptors as your natural GLP-1 hormones. Originally developed to treat type 2 diabetes, in 2014 the FDA approved the use of a brand of GLP-1s for tackling obesity in people without type 2 diabetes.

The medication prescribed by the specialist doctor isn't a short-term fix. But by safely lowering your set point, the GLP-1 medications available today help you reduce your body weight in combination with lifestyle changes.

Are you sure my medications are covered by my insurance?

The doctor's support team will work directly with your healthcare insurance to make sure your medication costs you less than $30 per month. If there are any issues, we always offer a full money-back guarantee for the program.
